Ellesmere being a traditional market town with a mix of Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings. Various attractions are the Mere with its Visitor Centre, and showcasing for only three months the fabulous Extramuros sculptures, where three British artists were commissioned to create sculptures to celebrate extraordinary geological, industrial and cultural heritage of ellesmere.

The Mere is one of a series of small lakes in the district; often know as "Shropshire's Lakeland ". There is the chance to hire a rowing boat, and the first environmentally friendly steamboat in Shropshire that is run purely on bio oil that is made from recycled vegetable oil and can go on any waterway in Shropshire .

Bordering the Mere are the Cremorne Gardens with children's play area, fun fair for all the family to attend during the festival.

There are plenty of beautiful and scenic walks in the area that will take you right along the Mere side or through the local nature reserve to the canal and on to Colemere Country Park .
